Andy, who was raised in Kelligrews, was diagnosed with cancer when he was 10 years old, but didn’t let that stop him from fulfilling his dream to own his own hot rod. The global hot rod community embraced his ambition and Andy, through his participation in H.A.M.B., an online message board for gearheads,  garnered the help of friends and donations from the hot rod community and realized his dream of building a hotrod, which he drove at the age of 13.

Andy died in March, 2009 at the age of 14. His parents and the local racing community found sponsors and established the Andy Dunn Memorial Race Day. Funds realized from the event will help families being assisted through Ronald MacDonald Charities in Newfoundland and Labrador.
