Harbour Grace officially opens new community garden to public

HARBOUR GRACE, NL —A new community garden recently opened up for residents of Harbour Grace.

Shovels to be used by members of council and the community garden committee as the first plant bed is filled.

A grand opening for the garden, located just across the road from St. Francis and behind the old courthouse, was held Saturday morning, June 17th.

The grand opening saw a crowd of around 40 people attend, including members of council and the community garden committee, as well as MHA Pam Parsons and MP for Avalon Ken McDonald.

“I think this is a great opportunity for people in the area,” said McDonald. “I look forward to seeing what this can do for the community.”

Residents looking to make use of the garden can sign up for their own bed to grow plants and vegetables.

Members of the community garden committee noted that proper safety procedures should be carried out before taking on a part of the garden, including proper stretches, equipment, and lots of water for both the plants and the gardeners.
