There was some uneasy moments for hundreds of students in Mount Pearl this afternoon after a man was reportedly seen in the area of their schools with a weapon.

Members of the RNC were at the scene of St. Peter’s Junior High, one of three schools that was reportedly put on lockdown as police officers combed the area.

“We have received an unconfirmed report that an individual was seen in the area of a Mount Pearl school with a weapon,” according to RNC Const. Geoff Higdon.

“As a result, in consultation with the Newfoundland and Labrador English School Board, several schools in Mount Pearl have been placed in secure school mode as a precautionary measure.”

Students were given the OK to board buses shortly after 2 p.m., a relative of one student told The Telegram.
