Students and faculty at Waterford Valley High School will pay homage for a second straight year to a mentor, teacher and coach they lost too soon.

King died two years ago today. He was 44.

The second annual Danny King Memorial Rugby Game will be held today at the school located on Topsail Road in St. John’s.

“Mr. King, commonly known as DK, was loved by many as a friend, coach, teacher, and teammate,” student organizer Liam Warren said.
“Mr. King loved the sport of rugby. He was a tough-as-bones player and passed on his knowledge to hundreds of teenagers over the years as a coach with Bishops College, Waterford Valley, Swilers RFC, and The Rock,’’ he added.

Waterford Valley is remembering King in the best way possible, an exhibition of the game he loved … rugby.
His family, friends, teammates, former students and community members are invited to attend the game which will be held on the field adjacent to the school, weather permitting, at 12:15 p.m. today

If conditions don’t allow, the match will be played in the school’s gymnasium.
