"It will be recalled that ... when Memorial was established as a university, that the board of regents appointed the president with the approval of the government, but it was the board of regents which did so.
"The last administration, sometime previous to Lord Taylor's appointment, reversed that and gave the power of appointment, and obviously the power of dismissal as well, to the lieutenant-governor in council (the cabinet). ... (more)

Long road to success 1
Ron James told The Telegram he is always surprised at his audience in St. John's.

The two shows are scheduled for Monday and Tuesday at the Arts and Culture Centre.
Originally scheduled for just one performance, James agreed to a second show following the high demand for tickets to the first. (more)

Preparing for global winter - Brian Jones 2
When Older Boy asked if he could have chickens, I might have hesitated if anyone informed me beforehand that a rooster can pump out pieces of poop the size of a German shepherd's.
Using a snow shovel to scoop guano-laden wood shavings out of a henhouse isn't necessarily the most disgusting chore you can imagine, but it's certainly on the list. (more)
