Cooke Aquaculture at home on south coast Breaking News print this article

The Telegram

Cooke Aquaculture is employing about 300 people on the south coast of Newfoundland the province’s Fisheries minister said in an update about the company in the House of Assembly today.
Tom Rideout says the company, which has received millions in public money, is employing 165 people at the Harbour Breton processing facility, with plans to hire about a dozen seasonal workers for production. As well, the farm part of the company employs about 100 people.
Rideout says the employment levels are better than originally projected by Cooke when it first brought operations to this province.

John from NL writes: Why is it that the fish farms in New Brunswick and British Columbia, which use similar technology, do so without receiving millions from government and without perpetuating of the stamp fishery mentality for cheaper labour? Why?

Marion from NL writes: Oh my goodness. This shining example of Honesty and Integrity is still making announcements for the Government. Oh well it seems like he has Dannys blessing. Apparently if you lie cheat and steal you fit right in with the Williams long term plan.

Larry Murphy from NL writes: Wonder if they are renting the bulidings from Rideout. He has to get his grubby hands on sixteen thousand dollars somehow. The miserable bast ard.

Fred Hopkins from NL writes: I see in the picture Tom Rideout has his thumb sticking up. He allready gave us the middle finger. Why is this arrogant ahole still making announcements? Does he think we will forget he stole from all of us? Danny has him well trained. Steel from us lie to us then make a big announcement to make yourself look good. What a useless old man this miserable piece of s h i t has turned out to be. For a time he even had Dannys hair style. This my fellow Newfoundlanders is your Deputy Premier. I sure as hell hope your all very proud of him.

Bob from NL writes: You people should get a life and stop insulting Tom Rideout. He is a man of the people and he is the second in command on the good ship Williams. When you question his integrity you insult our Premier, and therefore all of the people of this province. Tom Rideout has done many good things for his district. He donated money to a lot of good causes that needed money and got government money spent in the local areas. So what if he made a mistake about his office, even that mistake got more money into his district, so it wasn't all that bad.

Reg from NL writes: Bob it must be loosers like you that help make this bunch of crooks so dam popular. As long as they wave money around your happy. Your very easily impressed arent you?

Kevin from NL writes: ''When you question his integrity you insult our Premier, and therefore all of the people of this province.''

wince diamond from st. johns, nl writes: I just needed to read the headlines and knew that our govt. would be on the hook for the trip. A total waste of money, and easy to get in our province. Of course we can't complain, the govt is giving us a few measley dollars by eliminating the taxes on our insurance. Big deal. (our money). I guess they figured we wouldn't say anything about this one. Another company that will go bankrupt in a year or two............

Bob from NL writes: Why do you people have to always be so negative? This province is on the right track. We have more pride than ever because of the money that people like Premier Williams and Deputy Premier Rideout are spending in all of the districts.

Sara from NL writes: This Province is finaly starting to go in the right direction. I am so proud of what Danny and his team have done for us. I am also glad that he is still helping out the south coast as well. It is so beautiful their and the people are great, they deserve to finally have things turn around for them.

John from NL writes: I agree with Bob and Sara. The rest of you are so darned negative. Can't you see what Danny has done for us? I hope he never leaves. He is saving us from all that was wrong in our lives and our communities for so long. He has been a saviour for our province and all you people can do is complain. This man has done nothing bad for Newfoundland ever. Can any of you say that? Probably not. We are prouder now than ever thanks to his actions and getting more money out of our resources. Good to see some of those monies spent in the South Coast.
