Stan from Nl writes: Richard, you are right on. Just a red herring to try and distract the free thinkers from all his other screwups. Tom is gone, but his two flunkies, Whalen and denine are there. Oram and O'Brien took their noses out of his a.. long enough last week to make themselves look silly. That whole issue of Upper CHurchillhas been settled by the courts. Oh, poor Danny is halo is rather hard to find these days......

Cable Guy from outport, NL writes: Hey, maybe we can get redress for the CRTC's giving out of cable licenses while we're at it. The people of Newfoundland and Labrador didn't get their fair share out of that, but someone made off with a quarter of a billion dollars.

Frank from St. John's, NL writes: Fuel those fires of Newfoundland patriotism by claiming to re-dress the pain of an old wound.
The Eastern Health and Dept. of Health public relations people are witnesses this week at the cancer Inquiry.
Yes, it is a polling period.
And our NL comrades will eat this stuff up.

Lloyd from Labrador, NL writes: Well, Well. hasn't this court thing already been tried? Besides how can you sue someone (something?) when you sat at the table and negotiated and finally signed the contract of your own free will? I don't see that working. Didn't the Premier that about the retired civil servants? The negotiated, then signed their agreement which they must now live with?
Makes you wonder again, what is this all about? Is it a distraction from the other recent embarassments? Is it about dealing, somehow in a sideways fashion, with the Innu Nation demands (which are indeed legitimate and a different case altogether)?
Is it just about starting another fight with the Feds? If so, why? Or is it, as has been asked, a polling period? See what the Williams Government as done to us? We simply can't any longer, think you are straightforward. It is always about somehting else. What is it this time, because this just doesn't make much sense.

Bert from nl writes: Stan, you are so right that it is hard to find Danny's halo shining, but then again I cannot remember it ever shining in the liberal circles. You cannot find anything concrete to cast on the premier so name calling is the only thing to use. What was wrong with Danny changing Tobins actions and allowing the auditor-General to look at the books, I don't recall any of you liberals and ndp congratulating him or condemming Tobin.. Guess you missed it Hey!!!

greg davis from st. johns, nl writes: I like you Cable Guy, i like the way you think...i'm gonna keep my eye on you!!!..........Anyway, false alarm, the good Minister has apologized for being a little too enthusiastic at this mornings press-conference. Seems the battery in her Williams Administration Ministerial Earpiece was on the fritz and her Masters Voice faded out at a most inopportune time causing her to respond on her own. Tut-tut .Oram and O'Brien were ready to eviserate her on Bill's show and waited 45 minutes to get on but were told to stand down by the Big Guy.

Maxwell from St. John's, NL writes: Lloyd,
Don't forget the 25 year renewal clause. It fits the definition of a contractual provision signed under duress. We may not be able to get redress on the past years but there's an excellent case for overturning the next 25 years of highway robbery by Quebec.

michael Hinks from Seoul, Korea writes: I find it funny how some people can make fun of this serious situation. Just last week the leader of the Innu came out and said bluntly that if there wasn't any financial compensation from the Upper Churchill, then the Lower Churchill would be derailed. This is a serious threat from the Innu. There has been a lot of money and planning put into the Lower Churchill and now that the project is getting closer to sanction, the Innu want compensation from the Upper Churchill. Wow! Labrador is fast becoming the land of Canadians(non-natives) and Canadians-and-a Half(natives). The Inuit and Innu have a profit sharing arrangement with Voisey's Bay that see every man, woman and child receive $4000 a year.(couldn't find original article:relying on memory) The Inuit have just banned uranium mining for 3 years. The Metis leader sent an email to an American state saying that no hydro power would be sent there without their consent. (about 8 months ago)
What will happen if natural gas is produced off of Labrador? Will the Innu and Inuit, not to mention the Metis, confiscate it or charge tariffs for it to move across 'their' land? Will Labrador gas and Lower Churchill power be bogged down like the Mackenzie gas pipeline in the far north? Personally, I think there shouldn't be any Canadians-and-a Half entitlements in Newfoundland and Labrador.
Once NF starts dishing out special arrangements to the aboriginal groups, (for example, the Voisey's Bay profit-sharing), there will be no end to the lawsuits, stoppages, and economic blackmail. If you are a citizen of Newfoundland, native or non-native, then each citizen should have the same privileges.
I do take this issue seriously because I want to live in a land of equals. I also see why the government of NF was thinking of a lawsuit. Why should NF pay reparations to the Innu, when Quebec, and by default, Canada, is making the profit? I think that larger issues should be addressed here and that is Aboriginal Rights .
