Backstreet Boys to perform at Mile One Centre
The Telegram
The Backstreet Boys with special guest Girlicious will play at Mile One Centre in St. John’s Wednesday, July 30 at 7:30 p.m.
Tickets go on sale this Saturday at noon at the Mile One Centre box office. Tickets are $64.50 — $49.50 (plus service charges). Charge by phone: (709) 576-7657 or 1-800-361-4595, or online at www.admission.com.
According to a news release, the Backstreet Boys have sold more than 75 million albums worldwide. They have scored a dozen Top 40 hits, including “Quit Playing Games (with My Heart),” “As Long As You Love Me,” “Everybody (Backstreet’s Back)” and “All I Have To Give.”
The release says Backstreet Boys redefined the modern musical landscape 15 years ago and ushered in a chapter of pop culture that commandeered the world’s radio airwaves, broke music and concert sales records and launched a new generation of teen idols for millions of youths.
Released on Oct. 30, 2007, “Unbreakable” marks the sixth album from Backstreet Boys. This release contains the indelible melodies of Backstreet Boys, hooks galore and finely crafted three-and-four part harmonics.

Smile One from St. John's writes: Isn't it great!! Now that we have all this oil money, washed up acts from all over North America will come to town to get it from us. And to think our tax dollars still keep the place afloat.
This is economic development at its finest.

Jen Webster from NS writes: Don't like the concert choice, don't go. Simple. Other people want it, so others will go. Live with it and move on.

Amazed from NL writes: One thing is always certain about a concert announcement, someone will complain, but if it sells out that's great.
Personally, I'd need a gun at my head to attend that show, but hey, some mid 20's chicks might go nuts for this. :)

Ashley from Newfoundland writes: People should stop saying such mean things about the Backstreet Boys. I dont care, I am absolutely inlove with them, and have been ever sence they first came out. Alot of people are the same way, so dont ruin it for them with your negative comments. If you dont like their music, fine. But you dont have to bad mouth them and say all sorts of other things. You will see, The Backstreet Boys coming here will sell SO many tickets. There are still so many loyal fans, and I am one of them. So, like I said, if you dont like their music, fine, state that, but dont say anything else to bring the excitment of them coming here down.

Cassandra from St. John's, NL writes: I agree that this is a step backwards for Mile One, especially with this past month of Qeeens of the Stone Age as well as Bob Dylan.
Having said that, young women around the age of 20 - give or take a couple of years - would have been young and excited when these guys were huge, and many (like myself!) probably promised themselves to see them in concert if they ever had the chance.
These guys are washed up, yes, but they can still sing, and I'm sure they will put off a good show for their long-time fans and the present young generation.
As for Girlicious, I think I will enjoy them, but they will be entertainment that I can laugh at more than anything else!
