Turn clocks back one hour tonight to mark end of daylight savings time
The Canadian Press — Toronto
Most people in Canada will be able to count on an extra hour of sleep Sunday when clocks are scheduled to fall back one hour.
The time change kicks in at 2 a.m. local time, except in Saskatchewan, a province that’s on standard time year-round. For the rest of the country, daylight savings time returns March 8.
Authorities are warning drivers, bikers and cyclists to take extra care as the shorter days and worsening weather conditions can be a dangerous combination for commuters.
Crash statistics show a higher driving risk on the first work day following the end of daylight savings time.
Experts also warn that the time change can have a significant effect on some people’s sleep patterns, resulting in a disruption to their biological clock.
This is also the time of year when fire marshals remind people to replace the batteries in home smoke alarms.
