The fishing boat Kailey Venture caught on fire Wednesday evening near St. Anthony and fire crews were unable to contain the fire and boat was a total loss.
RCMP and the local fire department were called to the fire about 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. The vessel had been docked at the government wharf in St. Lunaire-Griquet, about 20 kilometres outside of St. Anthony.
The Kailey Venture is a 64-foot longliner. It had been at the wharf since last weekend.
A resident of the area noticed smoke coming from the vessel’s smoke stack and windows, and called the fire department.
The boat burnt and sunk at the wharf, and the wharf was also damaged by fire.
The RCMP is investigating.
