RCMP in the Placentia area are investigating a report of a missing berrypicker in the Norman's Cove area.
RCMP received a report from family members about 8:30 p.m. Thursday that a 59-year-old man from that community had not been seen since 2:30 p.m. after going berrypicking.
An investigation was launched but there has been no sign of the man up to the present time.
Police say the man is an experienced berrypicker who is familiar with the area.
Police officers, with the assistance of the RCMP’s police dog service and local fire department, conducted a search Thursday evening, however, no signs were detected as to where he may have gone.
Police in Whitbourne have since partnered with the Wolverines search and rescue team which is presently on the ground conducting an extensive ground search.
Locals from the community, along with the missing person’s family, are also included in this ground search.
An helicopter has also been called to the area.
Should anyone have any information with respect to this missing person, they are asked to contact the RCMP at 709-759-2600.
