Offshore helicopter safety inquiry to resume Thursday with Decker testimony
The Telegram
Testimony from an Australian risk-management specialist wrapped up this morning at the inquiry into offshore helicopter safety being held in St. John’s.
Kimberley Turner, CEO of Aerosafe Risk Management, is developing an industry profile that will identify the risks of transporting offshore workers via helicopter and come up with solutions for those problems.
The inquiry resumes Thursday morning with testimony from Robert Decker, the sole survivor of Cougar Flight 491 which crashed off Newfoundland March 12 claiming the lives of 17 people on board.
Inquiry lawyer Anne Fagan said today there is tremendous interest in Decker’s testimony and many of the families of the crash victims will be attending Thursday’s hearing.
Since there is limited seating at the inquiry, Fagan said priority seating will be give to the families of the passengers and flight crew.
“Unfortunately, there is not going to be any space for the general public,” she told the inquiry.
She encouraged people to watch the inquiry live on Rogers TV or to view the inquiry webcast on their computer.
“Sometimes, if there’s an excessive amount of traffic on the Internet lines, you can experience a problem.
“We’re doing our best. Our web provider has said that it should be able to accommodate all the traffic. However, we’d encourage (people) to look at their TVs as their first source.”
