Charles, Camilla honour war dead before departing for Toronto
The Canadian Press
The royal couple remembered Newfoundland and Labrador’s war dead today at a ceremony in St. John’s.
Prince Charles laid a wreath at the province’s National War Memorial as Camilla and others stood quietly.
The couple are scheduled to meet with students, teachers and volunteers at a language training school later today before departing for Toronto.
Charles and Camilla have a private meeting scheduled with Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty.
Later, Camilla will visit the Royal Conservatory of Music, where she will be treated to a brief performance.
The couple will make several stops in Ontario, British Columbia and Montreal before ending their 11-day tour Nov. 12 in Ottawa.
This is their first visit to Canada as a married couple.

Manuel Clark from St.John's, NL writes: I think it is ridicilious that these people are treated like they are better then us. Id like to know what makes them better then us? Is it the fact that they get the biggest welfare check in the world?

The biggest coverage we got about it here in Winnipeg was about Danny Williams reference to toilet paper in his welcome speech to the royal couple.

Tim Just about had enough from NL writes: Just heard on the radio that the pipe player who greeted Prince Charles downtown St. John's today is Dr. David Allison - chief medical officer for St. John's ! Isn't he meant to be busy looking after the H1N1 crisis presently affecting St. John's. Is he being paid on the job to play bag pipes for the Royals during this emergency! This is outrageous.

Telling it like it is from Mount Pearl, NL writes: I thought Newfoundlanders were supposed to be welcoming to visitors?
I guess that's an old fashioned cliche.
Let's remember, Canada paid and invited them to visit, not the other way around.
These are representatives of Commonwealth, if you don't like being part of the commonwealth, I believe there is a daily flight to Newark every day.
There you can look up to such heads of state as Britney Spears, Madonna, Paris Hilton and Jenna Jameson.
At least the Royal Family had the guts to stay in London during World War 2. How many of you would of had the guts to stay in a city being attacked by the Nazi's?
You would of cut and run.

C. O'Keefe from St. John's, NL writes: FYI, Telling it like it is , St. John's was attacked by the Nazi's in WW2. I for one didnt cut and run, I remained here for the entire war.
Also get your facts straight, Queen Elizabeth didnt remain in London during the war, she (and Princess Margaret) were evacuated to Windsor Castle in Berkshire.

E P from Nl writes: Mr. Clark: what makes them better than you, at the very least, is they have respect.
I don't know why so many people are so negative...is your life so miserable that you can not see any positive in ANYTHING? I'm glad you people are not on the side lines spewing your venom, we wouldn't get another visitor to Newfoundland! There goes our pride of being known for our welcoming open arms...sad

A Royal Welcome from NL writes: Considering our long and healthy relationship with the Royal family, why do ppl have such animosity towards them? Is it because Charles and Diana divorced? Grow up. If we hated most of the ppl who got divorced we'd hate the majority of the world and Jonand Kate Gosselin wpuldn't have reality shows. We should respect the Royal family for what they have done for Newfoundland in the past. And that my friends is quite a lot since 1497.
