Centre for health information advises of disclosure of personal information

In accordance with Section 31 of the Access to Information and Protection of Privacy Act (ATIPPA), the Newfoundland and Labrador Centre for Health Information is advising the public that it has disclosed personal information from its client registry to the Department of Health and Community Services for use in relation to the H1N1 Mass Immunization Program.
The information was provided following a request from the Department of Health and Community Services and was disclosed in accordance with ATIPPA under Section 31, which permits disclosure when there is risk of significant harm to the health and safety of the public and disclosure is clearly in the public interest.
The information disclosed for use in the development of an H1N1 registry included resident demographics, specifically name, address, telephone number, date of birth, MCP number, gender and CRMS ID number. This information was integral to establishing immunization clinics and ensuring timely delivery of vaccinations, as well as for evaluating implementation of the provincial H1N1 Mass Immunization Program.
The Newfoundland and Labrador Centre for Health Information provides information to health professionals, the public, researchers and health system decision-makers. The centre’s mandate also includes the development and implementation of a confidential and secure provincial electronic health record.
