Two positions created to manage former AbitibiBowater land
The Telegram
Two new positions have been created in Grand Falls-Windsor to help the province effectively manage lands that were formerly owned by AbitibiBowater.
A Crown lands management officer and a Crown lands management specialist will assist with inspections and other related management aspects of the recently acquired lands.
“Crown land is a valued resource, and we place great value on our responsibility to the people of the province to manage it appropriately,” said Environment Minister Charlene Johnson said.
“These positions within our Crown lands division will help us to focus specifically on the lands that were formerly held by AbitibiBowater, and help us continue in our overall provincial land management efforts.”
Last December, the provincial government enacted the Abitibi-Consolidated Rights and Assets Act which resulted in the repatriation of Crown lands. With the assistance of the lands management officer and specialist in Grand Falls-Windsor, these lands will be integrated into the provincial Crown lands inventory.

William from NL writes: Like i well always say, the oil resources won't be around forever, now would be a good time to the AbitibiBowater land into a electric/hybrid car manufacturing company for the province, imagine the jobs that would create and stay around for a couple generations. Danny wink wink

don from Newfoundland and Labrador writes: That is just what the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador needs, more Crown land! The Government already controls 97% of the land in the Province, now it will control 98%! No matter what Dictator Danny does with the lands that his Government stole from Abitibi, the lands will never be as productive as when Abitibi owned, managed and harvested the lands to create jobs and put money into the economy. Just like Castro and Chavez, Comrade Williams can't stand to see private property used by private owners to make profit, create jobs and pay taxes. The Government of Canada should consider whether it wants to continue to support a communist regime within confederation. During some recent meetings which I have attended outside of the Province I have heard Newfoundland and Labrador being referred to as the Cuba of the North. Dictator Danny has confirmed that to be the case by his actions and his rhetoric. I have no doubt that some day we are going to wind up just like Cuba. Viva la revolution!
