Legislature to open Nov. 30
The Telegram
The House of Assembly will open for its fall session on Monday, Nov. 30.
Government House leader Joan Burke made the announcement this morning.
“Government is eager to resume its legislative agenda,” Burke said in a statement.
“We look forward to some productive input and debate, which will contribute to the betterment of the people of Newfoundland and Labrador.”
She said opening the legislature on Nov. 30 “will ensure that all parties will have equal opportunity to actively participate in the byelection campaign taking place in the district of Terra Nova.”
Voters go to the polls in Terra Nova on Nov. 26.

don from Newfoundland and Labrador writes: Hopefully the people of the district of Terra Nova will elect an MHA on November 26, 2009 who will not be a member of Dictator Danny's party. Bolstering the ranks of the opposition by one more member will set a new tone for the re-opening of the House of Assembly and send a clear message to the little dictator that the tide is beginning to turn. It will be regrettable and very unfortunate if Dictator Danny's crowd wins the bye-election in Terra Nova as it will just cement his arrogant my way or the highway attitude and contempt for the people. A win for Dictator Danny will not be good for the future of the district of Terra Nova or for the majority of the people of Newfoundland and Labrador. The people of the district of Terra Nova have a unique opportunity and a duty to send a message to the little dictator. The people of the district of Terra Nova can continue the momentum, small as it may be, toward changing the way Danny's regime operates. Realistically, though, I fully expect that promises of new pavement and other campaign goodies from Danny and his cronies will no doubt win the day for the little dictator.

Bob Hannaford from NL writes: Opening the House on the last day of November is truly an insult to the people of this province. The House is the one place where government ministers can be asked questions in a public forum. there may not be many answers forthcoming, but at least we can all observe how our government members react to the questions themselves. Without the House, we depend on government news releases, the media, and the odd comment from Opposition members. I think the House should have been open since September and probably ending on November 30. How many days will be be before it closes for Christmas and who knows when it will open again?
