A 18-year-old Pasadena man has been charged with dangerous driving and impersonating police after allegedly driving a retired police vehicle recklessly in the Deer Lake area.
RCMP in Deer Lake responded to a complaint Monday from a concerned female driver that a male operating a white Ford Crown Victoria had caused her to nearly lose control of her vehicle.
Further investigation revealed that earlier that morning, the male operating a “retired” police vehicle had accelerated when the complainant attempted to pass the vehicle as it was driving very slowly. At one point the driver of the white car passed the woman’s vehicle at a high rate of speed with some emergency lights activated.
The witness stated the vehicle then passed other vehicles on a solid line.
As a result of the complaint, RCMP located the vehicle and the driver was arrested for dangerous driving and impersonating police. The vehicle was seized and it was found to be equipped with strobe lights (headlights, tail lights) which were installed by the present owner. Also, inside the vehicle was a can of pepper spray (non-police issue), a hand held scanner and mag light.
The accused was released to appear in provincial court in Corner Brook Jan. 12.
