NDP wants home heating rebate increased
The Telegram
Lorraine Michael wants a commitment from the Danny Williams government that low-income people will receive a home heating rebate again this year.
The NDP Leader also wants the amount of the rebate increased this year.
“This year's rebate must better reflect the needs of people trying to cope with increased energy costs,” said Michael in a news release.
She said people on fixed incomes, social assistance and the unemployed face increased winter heating costs which will force them to choose between heat and food.
“Too many people have to make the terrible choice between paying heat bills or buying groceries,” says Michael. “As a ‘have’ province, having anyone in this situation is unacceptable.”
