The 22-year-old female driver of a vehicle that went off Blackhead Road in October resulting in the death of a 23-year-old passenger has been charged with dangerous driving causing death.
The driver has also been charged with two counts of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm — as two other passengers in the car at the time (both aged 22 years) were taken to hospital with injuries.
The driver has been released from custody and expected to appear in provincial court on Jan. 8.
Meanwhile, a 50-year-old St. John's man — who is alleged to have issued an inspection certificate for the vehicle — has been charged in the case.
He faces charges of breach of trust by a public official, two counts of forgery, falsification of a document and providing an inspection certificate when an inspection has not been completed.
The man has been released from custody and is expected to appear in provincial court Dec. 10.
On Saturday, Oct. 3, at approximately 10:30 p.m., the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary received a call of a single-vehicle crash on Blackhead Road. Upon arrival, officers discovered the vehicle located off the road and over an embankment.
Three of the female occupants, all aged 22, were transported to hospital while the fourth, a 23-year-old St. John's woman, was pronounced dead at the scene.
RNC investigators allege the vehicle involved in this crash was purchased and a Motor Vehicle Inspection Certificate was issued for the vehicle on Oct. 2, the day before the fatal crash.
