Man charged with pointing a firearm Parked RCMP car has windshield smashed

A 35-year-old man from Old Shop has been charged with careless use of a firearm, pointing a firearm and impaired driving as a result of an incident in the community Friday evening.
RCMP from the Placentia/Whitbourne District received a call Friday that a vehicle was seen driving slowly past a house in the community about three times. The vehicle, a pickup, was known to the occupant of the house.
The 28-year-old male resident of the home confronted the pickup, at which time it stopped and the occupants of it got out.
One man allegedly grabbed a shotgun from the vehicle and pointed it at the 28-year-old man. The occupants of the vehicle then got back in and sped away from the scene. RCMP officers later caught up with the truck at which time it was stopped.
The male driver, who was identified as the person who allegedly pointed the firearm, was also impaired at the time. He was arrested and later released to appear in provincial court in St. John’s Jan. 6.
Meanwhile, the 28-year-old resident of the home has been charged with uttering threats. He is scheduled to appear in provincial court at a later date.
While the RCMP were investigating this incident, a person or persons smashed out the front windshield of the police car with a rock while in the New Harbour area.
