Lumsden to get new fire truck
The Telegram
The Town of Lumsden is getting a new $240,000 pumper truck for its fire department through a partnership with the provincial government, it was announced today.
“The provincial government is pleased to partner with the Town of Lumsden and their local fire department to enhance fire protection for residents through the purchase of a state of the art pumper truck,” said Tom Hedderson, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Minister Responsible for Fire and Emergency Services – Newfoundland and Labrador (Acting).
“Strong fire protection services require that firefighters have the necessary equipment to protect homes, businesses and the environment.”
The new truck will be cost-shared at a 90/10 ratio between the province and the town. The provincial government will contribute $206,443, while the Town of Lumsden will add $22,938. Including the utilization of a GST rebate of $10,619, the total cost of the truck is approximately $240,000.
Harry Harding, MHA for the District of Bonavista North, said the replacement of the 38-year old truck in Lumsden will mean a more reliable and effective fire protection service for Lumsden, Cape Freel’s and Deadman’s Bay.
