New printshop opening in Tors Cove Sunday

Local micro press Running the Goat Books and Broadsides is officially opening its new printshop in Tors Cove Sunday.

Owned and operated by Marnie Parsons, Running the Goat specializes in letterpress-printed and fine trade books. Among them is the popular series of Jack tales by Andy Jones with illustrator Darka Erdelji and designer Veselina Tomova.

Having worked out of her basement in downtown St. John’s for years, Parsons now has a bigger and brighter printshop on Cove Road with a shop area, where she displays her own work, along with the work of other local printers and printmakers, Tara Bryan, Anita Singh and Duncan Major.

“I can feel already that the space is going to shape the work in some ways; that it’s maybe going to change the nature,” Parsons said. “I’d like to do a few things that are local just to the shore.”

Parsons works on heavy vintage printing presses and is welcoming people to drop in for a demonstration. She’ll have open hours from Thursday to Sunday, all summer long.

Running the Goat’s grand opening will happen Sunday from 12-5 p.m., with music by Rick West and Allan Ricketts, and readings by Tom Dawe, Don McKay, Bernice Morgan, Agnes Walsh and Andy Jones.
