House vacant at time

Firefighters from at least two stations of the St. John's Regional Fire Department were called to a structure fire late Tuesday night on Blackler Avenue.

When they arrived on scene, there was heavy smoke and flame coming from a house at number 90. Personnel on scene quickly determined the house had been unoccupied for some time and fought the fire from the outside.

A ladder truck was called in from another station to battle the blaze from above. The fire was brought under control at about 12:30 a.m.

There was no word on the cause.
