Gary Long and partner Laura Bloomquvist have received approval for a café/gelato shop at 85 Military Rd., just a short walk away from Bannerman Park.

The pair had previously gotten approval from council to get heritage status for the home. On Monday, council approved their discretionary use application for the café.

The café would see takeout service for gelato, coffee, iced drinks and baked goods. The business will employ five people.

The café plans to operate from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday to Friday and 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays in the summer, with slightly reduced hours in the winter.
