Three Bay St. George area youth, all 17 years of age, have been charged for armed robberies that took place in Stephenville this year.

On Friday, at about 9:40 p.m., Bay St George RCMP responded to a report of an alarm at the Indian Head Co-op Gas Bar located on Carolina Avenue in Stephenville. An armed man wearing a mask had entered the store but fled empty handed.

As a result of an investigation conducted by the Bay St George RCMP with the assistance of Police Dog Services West, a 17-year-old Stephenville male youth was located not too far from the gas bar.

He has been charged with armed robbery, disguise with intent, assault with a weapon, conspiracy to commit an indictable offence (robbery), and two counts of breach of a youth probation order.

No one was injured.

Further investigation by police into two previous armed robberies that occurred Jan. 3 at the same Indian Head Co-op Gas Bar and at a restaurant on Main Street in Stephenville has resulted in the same 17-year-old male youth facing extra charges including two counts of robbery, two counts of disguise with intent and four counts of breaching his youth probation order.

The youth appeared in Stephenville Provincial Court on Tuesday and has been remanded into custody until his next court appearance on April 10.

Due to an ongoing investigation in relation to the armed robbery at the Co-op Gas bar on March 16, two 17-year-old male youth, both from Bay St George, were charged with robbery and conspiracy to commit an indictable offence (robbery).

Both of them were released from custody on conditions and are scheduled to appear on April 10 at Stephenville Provincial Court.
