Dobbin joined the RNC’s mounted unit in 2009 and was first paired with Sgt. Krista Clarke, who according to the RNC’s statement, “formed an immediate and unbreakable bond.”

The 1900 lb horse got his name because he was a gift to the mounted unit from the Dobbin family.

“The RNC’s mounted unit provides a valuable service to the RNC as their versatility allows them to access areas of our community that are otherwise unreachable during ground searches,” wrote the RNC in the statement released Friday afternoon.

“Our Mounted Unit also patrols trail-ways throughout the Northeast Avalon, attends community events, and they aid in police presence in the downtown core. The RNC’s Mounted Unit is a historically significant symbol of our police service and the province of Newfoundland and Labrador.”

Dobbin leaves behind “his two closest friends” – Dr. Rich and Harvey, who were also gifts to the mounted unit from families in the province.
