SYDNEY, N.S. — Cape Breton University and Mi’kmaw Kina’matnewey are partnering on a two-year pilot project to encourage Mi’kmaw adults to return to school and obtain a post-secondary degree.

The organizations signed a memorandum of understanding and agreed to offer 17 bursaries at $3,000 each. The initiative is meant to encourage Mi’kmaw students with some post-secondary education to try again.

The bursaries will be administered annually by Mi’kmaw Kina’matnewey and both organizations hope the project removes another barrier Mi’kmaw students may face when accessing post-secondary education by providing financial assistance.
