A cat was rescued from a burning home in Mount Pearl Tuesday night after the structure erupted into flames just hours after a police standoff and fire at the same address.
When the St. John’s Regional fire department arrived on scene, flames were coming from the front windows and the house was completely engulfed said platoon chief Rick Mackey. As firefighters battled the blaze and searched the home, they came across a cat inside the structure. Firefighters brought the animal outside and gave it oxygen while other personnel hosed down the fire from inside.
Smoke could be seen pouring from the broken windows and open front door when the Telegram arrived on scene and the fire appeared to be under control after about forty minutes.
The same house was the scene of a police standoff earlier in the day as officers attempted to apprehend a suspect in an ongoing investigation. A fire erupted during the standoff as well and the suspect had to be removed by force.

The rescued cat from Tuesday night’s fire appeared to be fine and was taken from the scene by the RNC.
Both fires are under investigation.
