C.B.S. names Citizen of the Year and Youth Volunteer

The Town of Conception Bay South, in partnership with the C.B.S. Lions Club, has named Dr. Adrian Power as the 2017/2018 Citizen of the Year. Emma Jacobs was also recognized by the town as the 2017 Youth Volunteer of the Year. The event was held during National Volunteer Week at the Manuels River Hibernia Interpretation Centre.

Citizen of the Year Dr. Adrian Power is the founder of the Coats for the Needy program and has been contributing to those in need for more at home and around the world for more than fifteen years. He volunteers as a curling instructor for C.B.S. and is a lead volunteer in his parish, where he has helped to organize a number of very successful events and initiatives. This past year, e travelled to Haiti to provide free dental services.

Youth Volunteer of the Year Emma Jacobs is the President of the Queen Elizabeth Student Council and a member of the Conception Bay South Leo’s Club. She organizes many school events, such as the Winter Carnival and Spirit Week, to raise funds for various charities. As the co-chair of the Students for Change group, Emma has arranged fundraisers to bring awareness to Beagle Paws, the Ronald McDonald House and various mental health initiatives. Emma gives a great deal of her time to the Refugee and Immigrant Advisory Council, where she helps teach English to new immigrants in our community.

Mayor Terry French has extended thanks to all volunteers in the town.

“It’s because of our many passionate and dedicated volunteers that Conception Bay South is such a great place to live, to work, to play, and to raise a family. To all of our volunteers, thank you,” said French.
