CLARENVILLE, N.L.— Anthony Soper, 27, has pled guilty to possessing cocaine while in police custody.
He had originally pled not guilty, and was scheduled to stand trial July 19.
The alleged offense took place on Oct. 16, 2017 at the Clarenville provincial courthouse.
On Oct. 16, 2017 Soper was sentenced to four years, seven months imprisonment for the knifepoint robbery of a Clarenville taxi driver.
A woman was charged with trafficking cocaine to Soper, but that charge was stayed by the federal Crown.
Though the court documents do not specify that the exchange took place at the courthouse, Clarenville RCMP confirmed the cases are connected, and that the alleged exchange took place at the courthouse during Soper’s October court appearance.
The guilty plea, along with two guilty pleas for breaches, were entered before the court June 21. Soper will return to court for sentencing July 4.
