After spending nearly a month in custody, a Deer Lake man has decided to exercise his right to a bail hearing.

Ricky Halfyard, 29, was one of four men arrested following an Oct. 8 home invasion in Reidville.

Halfyard was arrested along with Tanner Healey, 23, on Oct. 9 and on prior court appearances had consented to remaining on remand.

However, during an appearance in provincial court in Corner Brook on Tuesday afternoon the court was informed that he wanted a bail hearing.

Halfyard appeared via videoconference from the West Coast Correctional Centre in Stephenville.

He’s charged with breaking and entering with intent, using a firearm in the commission of an offence, disguised with intent, use of a firearm in committing robbery, forcible confinement and unauthorized possession of a firearm.

His bail hearing has been set for Friday at 1:30 p.m.

The court was also informed that Halfyard has been accepted to be represented by legal aid and should have a lawyer assigned before the bail hearing.

Tanner Healey and Dylan Ryan, 20, another accused in the case, were also on the court docket for appearances on Tuesday morning. Tanner Healey has been in custody since being denied bail on Oct. 12 and is charged with breaking and entering with intent, using a firearm during commission of an offence, two counts of pointing a firearm, disguised with intent, use of a firearm in committing a robbery and forcible confinement.

Ryan is charged with use of a firearm in committing robbery, forcible confinement and disguised with intent.

Both have had their matters set over to Dec. 5.

The fourth man charged has a court appearance set for Nov. 14. Jared Paul Healey, 21, is charged with using a firearm in committing a robbery, forcible confinement and disguised with intent.
