GANDER, NL – After 10 days in lockup and a brief appearance in Gander provincial court Monday morning, Leki Loshi is a free man.
The 24-year-old Bronx, New York man pleaded guilty to becoming unruly on a Swiss air flight, causing it to be diverted to Gander on Jan. 13.
Information filed by the RCMP stated Loshi, “did intentionally interfere with the performance of the duties of flight crew members thereby endangering the safety or security of an aircraft in flight or of persons on board contrary to section 7.41(1) of the Aeronautics Act., RSC 1985, Chapter A-2”
Judge Jacqueline Jenkins noted alcohol and medication played a role in Loshi’s “unpleasant behavior, that crossed the line into criminal behaviour.”
In making her ruling, Jenkins accepted a joint submission from Loshi’s defence and the Crown for 15 days incarceration.
Jenkins allowed a 1.5 time served credit to be added to Loshi’s sentence, and Loshi was released following his court appearance.
