The first big snow storm of the season for the Northeast Avalon is expected to drop 20 cm or 30 cm before it’s all over.
The storm is forecast by Environment Canada to begin over the Southern Avalon this morning (Saturday) and spread over the Northeast Avalon, including St. John’s metro, around noon.
Snowfall is expected to continue, heavy at times, through to about midnight when the forecasters say it will begin to taper off.
In addition to the snow, there will be wind — northerly wind gusting to 120 km/h along the coast.
Visibility will be reduced as a result, late this afternoon and tonight, so if you’re in the area and had plans to head out this evening, you might want to reconsider.
The extended forecast shows a chance of flurries Sunday, but then a break until possible snow or rain on Wednesday.
