Fire destroys home of Roddickton-Bide Arm author Earl Pilgrim

Pilgrim escaped from fire unharmed

Earl Pilgrim, of Roddickton, has completed the manuscript for his latest work The Adventures of Ernest Doane. The experienced author of 19 books was drawn to the subject’s life story after receiving numerous documents from Doane’s family as well as his own diaries. There will be three volumes of his life story, with the first coming out this year.

The Roddickton-Bide Arm home of author Earl Pilgrim was destroyed by a fire on Saturday evening. The 78-year-old Pilgrim escaped from the house unharmed.

The cause of the fire, as of Sunday afternoon, was unknown.

Pilgrim is a prolific author of the Northern Peninsula. He has published a number of books, the most recent book of which, The Adventures of Ernest Doane, Volume 1, was released in 2017. He had been working on two additional volumes of the book.

Pilgrim has also served in the Canadian Army and is a former Canadian Light Heavyweight Boxing Champion.

He subsquently worked as a forest ranger and as a wildlife protection officer with the Newfoundland and Labrador government.
