He doesn’t have a lawyer yet, but a Fort McMurray man told the provincial court in Corner Brook on Tuesday that he was thinking about getting the charge against him moved to Alberta.

Donald Nichols is charged with possessing a controlled drug or substance for the purpose of trafficking.

The charge was laid in September after the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in Deer Lake conducted a drug bust at a home in the town.

The drug bust resulted in the seizure of various amounts of what is believed to be cocaine, crack cocaine, marijuana, cannabis resin and hashish, as well as drug paraphernalia and cash. A small marijuana grow operation, which consisted of a number of marijuana plants at various stages of growth, was also dismantled.

The day after the drug bust the Corner Brook RCMP Serious Crime Unit executed a search warrant at a cabin at Grindstone Pond near Cormack that resulted in the seizure of various amounts of marijuana, cannabis resin, drug paraphernalia, two firearms and ammunition. Another marijuana growing operation was dismantled.

Nichols was told that in order to have the charge transferred a lawyer would need to make an application to the court here and the Crown would consider it.

Nichols said he expected to contact a lawyer this week and his matter was set over to Feb. 13.

A Deer Lake man charged during the same bust, Garry Edgar Gregory, will appear in court on Feb. 6 on four counts of possessing a control drug or substances for trafficking, two counts of producing a controlled substance, two counts of failing to comply with a court order and one count of unauthorized possession of a firearm.
