Fortis is warning people in the province not to respond to text messages claiming to originate with the company.

The utility company has received reports that people in the province are receiving text messages which claim Fortis Inc. has sent them funds. People who open a link in the text message are then directed to a false website.

Fortis said the text message is fraudulent. They are advising the public not to respond to the text messages nor open the link.

Incidents of cyber fraud can be reported to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501 or online at www.antifraudcentre.ca.
