BEAR COVE, N.L. – A Bear Cove home is a total loss after a fire early Saturday morning, June 16.

Flower’s Cove RCMP and the Straits Fire Department responded to a report of a residential fire in the Great Northern Peninsula community around 1 a.m.

No one was harmed in the fire as the owners were out of town at the time. All contents inside the house were lost along with a nearby ATV.

According to Sgt. Des Mollon, the fire department stayed on scene until the fire was out.

The RCMP have not deemed the fire suspicious.

Anne Caines, a Bear Cove neighbour, has organized a Grand in Your Hand fundraiser to support the family.

Each participant purchases a block for $10. There will be a draw and the winner will take home $1,000. The family will be given the remainder.

As of Wednesday morning, June 20, 145 blocks had been sold.

A draw is scheduled for June 28, though Caines told the Northern Pen she would postpone the date if she feels more money can be raised for the family.

Donations for the draw can be sent via eTransfer to [email protected].
