The one condition for the approval stipulates the town must submit a women’s employment plan for the construction phase of the project.
The plan must identify specific commitments to support recruitment, training, employment and retention of women and be approved by the deputy minister responsible for the Women’s Policy Office prior to the start of work on the project.
The town is planning to replace its existing wastewater treatment facilities as they do not meet the current Federal Wastewater Systems Effluent Regulations.
The new treatment plant, which will be located north of Gander and south of Whitman’s Pond, will include preliminary, primary and secondary levels of treatment, as well as effluent disinfection.
