Newfoundland Power hosted its third Provincial Hard Hat Drive in support of cancer care in Newfoundland and Labrador on Saturday.
Hundreds of Newfoundland Power employees, retirees and volunteers collected donations from shoppers at participating outlets across the province including Sobeys, Foodland, Tim Hortons, Dominion stores and various shopping centres between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.
At the Sobeys Howley Estates store, cheerful representatives of Newfoundland Power braved cold winds to collect money to help fund the Power of Life Project.

Paige London, V-P of finance, was there to explain the scope of the project.
“We’re in partnership with Bliss Murphy (centre). We’ve raised in our previous drives over $90,000 and we hope to make today’s event a great success again.
“The proceeds that we raise today will be 100 per cent kept in the province and will be used to buy things like chemotherapy recliners, family chairs — things that really focus on comfort for patients and their families when they’re going through treatment,” said London.
“We’re getting great support from everyone who comes by.”
