The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has issued a recall warning for two frozen raw breaded chicken products due to salmonella contamination concerns.
One of the products is 800-gram boxes of Janes pub style chicken burgers with a best before date of May 12, 2018 and UPC 0 69299 12491 0.
The other is 800-gram boxes of Janes pub style snacks popcorn chicken with a best before date of May 15, 2018 and UPC 0 69299 12542 9.
The products were distributed nationally and the public is advised not to consume them.
A total of 18 cases of illnesses are under investigation in six provinces including 10 in Ontario, two in Nova Scotia, two in New Brunswick, two in Quebec and one in each of British Columbia and Alberta, resulting in six people being hospitalized.
One of the individuals has died, although it has not been determined if salmonella contributed to the cause of death. The illnesses occurred between June and September of this year.
