UPDATE: Sunnyside woman killed in TCH accident near Goobies

Police have identified the victim of a fatal accident Friday afternoon on the Trans Canada Highway as a 23-year-old female from Sunnyside.

In a news release issued Saturday morning, the RCMP said it would not be releasing the victim’s name. She was the driver and lone occupant of a Honda sedan involved in the two-vehicle collision, which occurred west of Goobies in the eastbound lane.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Two people in the other vehicle, a Ford truck, were taken to hospital in Clarenville for treatment.


The driver of an east-bound vehicle — a Honda sedan — has died following a two-vehicle accident just west of Goobies on the Trans-Canada Highway this afternoon.

The two occupants of the other vehicle, a Ford truck, were transported to hospital in Clarenville with undetermined injuries.

Clarenville RCMP is advising the TCH will be closed in both directions west of Goobies at Trailside until further notice.

RCMP Traffic Services Collision Re-constructionists are enroute to the scene.

The public is asked to find alternate routes, if possible, as the highway will be closed during the course of the investigation.

A motor vehicle accident on the Trans-Canada Highway west of Goobies has been closed the highway in both directions, the RCMP Clarenville detachment has advised.

No details at this time in relation to injuries or how many vehicles involved.

The highway will be closed until further notice.
