UPDATE: Two charged in armed robbery — one held in custody, one released following court appearance

Julian Matthew Squires, 25, has been remanded in custody following an appearance in provincial court this afternoon on charges laid in connection with an armed robbery Jan. 18 in the Cowan Heights area of St. John's.

Amanda Murphy, 27, also charged in the case, was released from custody on conditions she have no contact with Squires or the complainant, and keep the peace and good behaviour.

Both are due back in court Feb. 16.

Charges include robbery with violence and assault with a weapon.

Amanda Murphy, 27, and Julian Matthew Squires, 25, are due in court this afternoon in connection with an armed robbery Sunday in the Cowan Heights area of St. John's.

Murphy made a brief appearance before the judge just after noon today, but will be back after the lunch break.

They are both charged with two counts of robbery on two men arising from the Cowan Heights incident.

A man and woman charged in relation to an armed robbery in Cowan Heights in St. John’s Jan. 18 had allegedly responded to an ad on a classified website and arranged to meet the seller of the item being advertised.

The armed robbery took place at the location in Cowan Heights where the parties agreed to meet.

Police did not say what the item was that was to be purchased.

The RNC charged a 27-year-old woman and a 25-year-old man on Sunday with robbery with violence and assault with a weapon. Both were held in custody to appear in court today.

Details of the incident include that on Friday, Jan. 18, RNC patrol officers responded to a complaint of an armed robbery in Cowan Heights.

A male who had placed an ad on the classified website to sell an item he owned agreed to meet a potential buyer at a location the buyer had suggested. The man and two friends went to the location and then was, along with his friends, robbed of their possessions by a male and female suspect. One suspect had a knife and the other had a club-like object.

A man and woman were arrested Sunday in connection with a violent robbery and assault in the Cowan Heights area of St. John's earlier this month.

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary says a 25-year-old man and 27-year-old woman were arrested for robbery with violence and assault with a weapon in an open area in Cowan Heights on Jan. 18.

Both were held in custody until a court appearance.
