Tractor trailer accident closes portion of TCH

An accident in western Newfoundland involving a tractor trailer closed a section of the Trans Canada Highway Sunday evening.

According to Deer Lake RCMP, the tractor trailer jack-knifed, causing it to block the highway. Police said conditions on the highway were extremely dangerous at the time of the accident, with whiteout conditions and zero visibililty reported.

The affected portion of the TCH is located between Hampden Junction and Birchy Narrows.

Emergency personnel were en route to the scene as of 8:30 p.m. Sunday.
