O’Leary, a councillor-at-large made the announcement in front of approximately 70 supporters at City Hall in St. John’s.

With members of her family standing behind her, O'Leary said she wants to be the next mayor to contribute more for her family, the community, and the capital city as a whole.

She said her campaign in 2009 struck a chord with voters.

O'Leary said council can do more for its citizens.

"We all know we have a great city," she said.

But she added it can be more dynamic and said she is not afraid to ask questions. She said council needs to seek new ideas and listen to residents.

If elected, O'Leary said she will reach out to residents.

She also plans to build relationships with the business community to make St. John's a business-friendly place.
