A Sheaves Cove man appeared in provincial court in Stephenville Tuesday afternoon on a number of firearms offences, but the matter was set over until today.

Gerard Leonard Smith was arrested Tuesday following a search of his home on July 6.

Smith had been placed on an undertaking by a provincial court judge on a charge of uttering threats on July 5. Conditions of that undertaking were for Smith to turn any firearms he had in his possession over to police, not to possess any firearms, ammunition or weapons, and to keep the peace and be of good behaviour.

On July 6, the Bay St. George RCMP executed a public interest search warrant at Smith's home in Sheaves Cove. A large quantity of unsecured firearms and ammunition were seized during the search.

Smith is facing eight charges for unsafe storage of firearms, three charges for unsafe storage of ammunition and three breaches of his court undertaking.
