Dozens of shocked Sheshatshiu residents gathered on Beach Road early this afternoon, watching as RCMP officers began investigating a terrible car accident.

The vehicle went off the road, with the driver’s side of the car slamming into a tree.

It has not been confirmed how many people were in the car, or if anyone has died as a result from the accident. But it was clear, from the people’s anguished reactions that residents fear the worst. Several people stood on the street sobbing, wiping away tears, and hugging each other close.

RCMP and members of the volunteer fire department worked swiftly to put a tarp around the vehicle, and cordoned off the accident site with police tape.

An RCMP officer who responded to the crash says the investigation into the accident will be ongoing. Police officers and several onlookers remain at the scene.
