Village mall closed until further notice

Telegram publishing in print, digital and online despite shopping centre's closure

The Village Shopping Centre — including The Telegram’s offices — will be closed until further notice, the mall said late this afternoon in a written statement.

On Sunday, the shopping centre saw flooding and damage to the sprinkler and electrical systems as a result of the power outages that were widespread across the province.

“Appropriate repair crews have been, and continue to be, on location dealing with these repairs as expediently as possible,” mall management said, adding an estimated re-opening date will be announced at a later time.

“We understand the effect this situation has had on both our tenants and employees and our customers, and are working as hard as possible to get repairs completed.”

Telegram staff have been unable to work from the paper’s offices since Sunday. However, The Telegram continues to provide news updates and content as usual, with reporters, editors, advertising representatives and other staff working from their homes and other locations. The Telegram is still being published and our online and digital editions are running as normal.

“We have more than 700 carriers, drivers and distribution agents,” explains Leo Gosse, The Telegram’s reader sales and marketing manager. “Our youth carrier families and adult carriers have been doing a tremendous job reaching customers across the province, and we haven’t missed a day.

“We’ve been bringing in the news to communities where, in some cases, they didn’t have power.”
