Former premier Danny Williams announced that his 2,400 acre development in Southlands, St. John’s, will be named Galway.

Williams said the name is “all about the family.”

Galway is his mother’s maiden name, and serves as a connection to his family’s Irish roots.

Williams said that the city is running out of room to grow, and Phase 1 of the project will be roughly 150 acres of new industrial, commercial and residential development.

Residential lots will go on sale in 2015.
