A Conception Bay South man is facing drug trafficking charges after police searched a vehicle earlier this week and seized marijuana and hashish.

According to a news release from Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit — Newfoundland and Labrador (CFSEU-NL), 103 pounds of marijuana and three kilograms of hashish were seized from a wooden crate located in the back of a 2010 Dodge Ramp pickup. Police stopped the vehicle Tuesday on the Foxtrap Access Road and used a warrant to search it.

The seized drugs were transported from Nova Scotia to Newfoundland and Labrador, according to police.

Samuel Caines of C.B.S. was arrested and appeared in court the following day. He faces multiple charges under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act and is scheduled to make his next court appearance March 27. He was released from custody Wednesday.

Police in Nova Scotia and joint forces drug and federal enforcement units in Corner Brook assisted CFSEU-NL in the investigation, as did local Royal Newfoundland Constabulary and RCMP officers.
