In memory of Ocean Ranger victims

Eighty-four candles were lit today in memory of the 84 victims lost in the Ocean Ranger disaster on Sunday, Feb. 14, 1982.

With each candle lit, the names of the victims we're read aloud by two Gonzaga students at the 32nd annual memorial service at st. St. Pius X Church.

The semi-submersible oil rig disaster claimed the lives of the 84-man crew in a vicious storm in the North Atlantic.

A rogue wave disabled an instrumentation panel, affecting the rig's ballast tanks and causing it to list for hours before it sank.
